St. Valentine blues.

Elohors sad song...

All this build up to Valentines Day...
Oh yes it is coming up,
And He still hasn't dropped any hints, what's up?
I don't have a valentine (a sudden frown), now what shall I do?
Almost every single person in the *not to do list* has asked me, every one but Ego Ofon! (Sobbing)
Ok now, hold up, wait a minute, deep breath in, while I put out the description of this hottie...
Savoring every taste in my mouth as I utter some words detailing his CV
I've been crushing on him since my Abuloma days... Sigh!

Melissa's dilemma

Will you be my valentine?
Would that be just too forward
Ok, will you consider being a valentine to this delectable lady?
Still forward?

I will open doors for you,
WHAT?
Ok now, that's just desperate...

I will take you to places beyond
Oh shoot, that sounds like astronomy

I will remotely configure your life
Too techie, right?
My life...

Josiah's submission

I don't get valentines day,
That's my defense and my current resolve
Why do we fall in "Love" so hard, I say
It's a "flippin" set up to imprison your emotions to the "one"
That significant other that becomes your entire life and more and then some

Where a beautiful ensemble of fluttering butterflies, twirl inside us whenever we hear the phone ring...
How our hearts melt when we receive a beautifully worded text message...
The goosebumps, (singing - I got chills!) from the slightest touch...
The resonating sounds of sweet laughter
The silence we embrace when mere words are just not enough
We are the happiest when we find love and give love
Valentine's Day should be every day, but I can understand why we make this day special, Just because we can...
All defenses lifted as I receive the spirit of love
I give love,
I celebrate love,
That's what it all boils down to at the end of the day

Happy Valentine

Meet the Team!

We are a team of 20 ladies committed to making sure we get our 20-year reunion right. Headed by Iyore James, our goal is to ensure that our ‘give back’ project is executed successfully and our reunion events noteworthy.

There are four subcommittees - Fundraising, Project, Events, and Communications.  Each subcommittee will be featured on our blog at some point, so you’ll get to know its role and members.

We aim to be inclusive and responsive therefore we ask that you contact us with questions, comments and suggestions on the sort of events and activities that you would like for our reunion. The Events Subcommittee will be in touch soon to solicit ideas.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

TO GIVE OR NOT TO GIVE by Adobi Okam-Odele

Now consider this part of who you are today started many years ago in Abuloma because that is where you started to understand better knowledge, discipline and progress.

At Knowledge that is where your quest to know more, your curiosity became intense.

At Discipline you learnt how to follow the rules and set goals and we actually achieved them back then AND look at where we all are today.

At Progress, remember how we all wanted to make sure we were among the 70 and above during assessment. Remember how we wanted to all pass and go the next class AND today we have all grown to be great women and we are still making progress.

So consider this and give generously to this reunion planned project.

Dear Class of 96 member
The reunion committee met today January 16th, 2016. We are trying to decide when best to host our re-union event. Please post a comment with your vote by choosing A or B below. Please post your comment by January 23rd, 2016.
A. September 23rd-25th, 2016

Should the majority decide on December, the plan is still to have the class project completed for launching in September in time for the start of the new academic year. Expect a preliminary schedule of activities by March, 2016.

Current state: Primrose house

As of January 11, 2016

Dear amazing women of the 1996 FGGC Abuloma graduating class:

Hope this message finds you well. You should have received multiple messages regarding our upcoming 20th high school reunion event. We have now entered the fundraising phase to raise N3,000,000 (15,087 USD or 10,028 GBP) toward our class gift—renovation of Primrose house. We are asking each member of the class to donate N30, 000 (151 USD or 101 GBP) that may be paid in instalments or as a whole. We would like to have all monetary donations collected by April 30th, 2016 as re-construction work is scheduled to commence May/June 2016 and end early September, 2016 in anticipation of the new school academic year.

Also, we are planning to distribute items (t-shirt and class-book) to commemorate our reunion event as well as a social event to celebrate, re-connect and re-unite with old friends. We are still in the process of determining the exact cost but anticipate that an additional N10,000 (50 USD or 33GBP) per person may suffice.  Please send your t-shirt size, old and recent pictures, current mailing address to abulomaclassof96@gmail.com

Please check your email for instructions on how to make your donation depending on your region of residence. If you did not receive an email, please post in the comments section.

Best Regards,
Your class of 96 Reunion planning committee

Dear Fellow FGGC Abuloma Class of 96 member,

It’s almost 20 years since we graduated from our great Alma-mater, FGGC Abuloma. We are so proud of the ladies we have become and what we have accomplished to date.

Over the past year, many of us have been engaging in conversations on how best to mark our 20th anniversary and lots of great ideas have been shared. The main idea that emerged was to have a Reunion Event in 2016 at which time a class gift will be presented.
As many of you may know, our dear F.G.G.C Abuloma is no longer as we used to know and love. Years of neglect and insufficient government interest in Federal schools in general have resulted in decline in infrastructure. It is really sad to say that most of the buildings are structurally unsuitable for living and learning.

A lot of work has been done to assess the current state of infrastructure in the school to determine the most pressing needs and associated renovation costs. After careful examination and suggestions from the school administration, the Reunion Committee decided that it would be best to renovate a hostel in the school.  Besides being one of the cheaper options of all considered, we believe this will serve the school and students perpetually. The class of 1995 held their 20th reunion on December 19th, 2015 and installed a borehole, 2 tanks and a tank stand on the school premises.

We have chosen to renovate Primrose House, which up until recently was dedicated to housing all JSS 1 students. The project would involve repairing the walls, ceilings, electrical wiring, windows/doors; installing mosquito nets, fans, toilets and painting. I am sure we all remember how terrifying it was the first day we were dropped off in boarding school. We hope this will provide a smoother transition for the students. After evaluation by 3 contractor firms, the cheapest bid for the total sum of the project was N3,000,000 (Three million naira). Consequently, we are asking each member of the class to donate a minimum of N30, 000 (thirty thousand naira) that may be paid in installments or as a whole. However, we certainly will accept any amount you can afford. Please check you mail boxes regarding details on how to make a donation based on your region of residence.
         Best Regards,
